When we first conceived the idea of a restaurant to complement The Jolly Coopers way back in the mid 90’s, the subject of the name came up and it was with much thought and consideration that the process began. We thought about how we wanted the restaurant to feel, how we wanted the customers to feel, and how we would like to feel after eating there. Aunty Gwen sprang to mind who, after a Sherry aperitif and a nice meal with friends and family, the odd glass of wine thrown into the mix, would often be heard to say, “Oh I do feel Squiffy.” There she sat, with a lovely warm glow about her and a delightful relaxed persona but, most of all, the happiest of faces.
So we thought, “We’d like to feel Squiffy.” And it means no more than a happy place to be in after a nice meal and a couple of drinks among friends and family.
Squiffy’s Restaurant was added on to The Jolly Coopers in December 1997 and opened its doors with an à la carte menu created by our very own Chef Vinny. We produced a new specials menu daily. Soon, firm favourites were established and requested so often by the customers they made the menu on a permanent basis.
In 2010 we decided on a radical change to Squiffy’s and, after extensive research in Barcelona, we created the tapas menu - an eclectic tapas menu described by a customer recently as “Tapas with an Asian Fusion.” If you get past the tapas stage then there is a main course selection, designed to complement the tapas and also the needs of the more traditional diner.
We also have a nibbles menu which is served, like the rest of the menu, in the restaurant, the bar or alfresco on our garden patio, weather permitting.
At Squiffy’s we pride ourselves on using local suppliers and have fresh deliveries of fish, meat, vegetables and provisions daily. We hope you enjoy your Squiffy’s experience and don’t forget our Sunday lunches with traditional roasts and many other dishes catering for all tastes, booking is recommended.
